1st Singapore Life Drawing

It's been long, but we finally found a place, and some models where I could continue my watercolors and anatomy study. I will later explain the details, but for now, here are some result of 3 hours in my first Life drawing in Singapore.

Hi Audran, found your blog while googling for life sketchers in Singapore.. very nice stuff! I like the fluidity of your lines, and how efficiently the washes express form.

Been looking for a few life drawing sessions myself...so where did you end up finding one?

is it illegal to engage in figure/nude drawing in singapore? what about art schools?

Unknown said...

Why on earth would it be illegal??????

pornography is illegal in singapore, correct? from what i've been reading about the laws there they are fairly rigid and there's huge latitude for interpretation by the PAP. isn't nudity basically taboo for singaporeans?

Unknown said...

Since when life drawing is a pornographic activity?
I don't recall any sexual activity going on during session.

Nudity is taboo all over the world except in a few tribes deep in the forest. Walk downtown NY naked, and you'll end up with the police. Same here, same in Tokyo.

Don't confuse nudity and porn, it's totally unrelated. There are plenty of Art School with life drawing. This where i got my models from.

Porn is illegal in Singapore indeed, but on the other hand, prostitution is legal.

i don't confuse them, i've studied art all my life in many countries, but am concerned that i won't be allowed/able to have model time when we go to singapore given some of what i've read of the obscenity laws and the PAP.
if you're telling me it's not an issue, and my worries are unfounded, then i'm pleased.

i mean, isn't Cosmopolitan Magazine banned there? if the PAP finds Cosmo pornographic then it should be understandable why a westerner might be concerned about THEM confusing nudity with pornography?

Unknown said...

I understand your point, but i dunno about Cosmo. Their website isn't locked. unlike playboy.com.

In all honesty, i didn't get the feeling that nudity was a more shocking matter here than anywhere else. But then again it might be because my circle of friends are mostly artists and used to it. Have no worries you'll find good model when needed.

Hi Audran, sorry about this invasion. My name is Hyun ah and I recently moved in Singapore from Hong Kong. In Hong Kong I had found amazing studio for life drawing and I want to continue it in Singapore too. But it is harder than I thought. So.. I found your blog post about life drawing in Singapore. If you can give me some information, it would help a lot. Many thanks in advance. Hyun ah (hasong23@gmail.com)
